AI assistants (MCP)

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another AI assistant to MyDesigns, and make designs, products and stores by chatting.

What it is

MyDesigns runs an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way AI assistants connect to other apps. Once connected, the assistant works in your MyDesigns account for you: it reads your profiles, stores, products and orders, and it can create designs, products and stores when you ask.

  • "Dream up 4 retro surf designs so I can pick the best ones."
  • "Make 5 cat dad t-shirts with my summer tee profile and put them in my store."
  • "Find designs that sell for nurses and make 3 of them."
  • "Make my store a banner and a logo that match what it sells."
  • "How did my store do this month, and which products sold best?"
  • "Where is order 12345, and has it shipped?"

Connecting your assistant

Every assistant needs the same address. ChatGPT calls the connection a plugin, Claude a connector, and coding tools an MCP server.

https://mcp.mydesigns.io/mcp

When the assistant first needs your account, it opens a MyDesigns sign-in page. Sign in and approve the access, and the assistant carries on. Before you sign in, it can already browse the product catalog. Tools that cannot open a sign-in page use a personal access token instead, covered further down this page.

Claude

These steps work in Claude on the web and in the Claude desktop app.

  • Open Customize, then Connectors.
  • Select Add, then Add custom connector.
  • Name it MyDesigns, paste the address and select Continue.
  • Keep the sign-in settings Claude detects and select Add, then Connect to sign in.
  • In a chat, turn it on from the + button, under Connectors.

Custom connectors work on every Claude plan, but the free plan allows only one. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds the connector under Organization settings, then Connectors, and each person connects their own account.

ChatGPT

  • On chatgpt.com, open Plugins in the sidebar.
  • Select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
  • Name it MyDesigns and paste the address under Connection.
  • Choose OAuth for authentication, tick I understand and want to continue, and select Create as a plugin.
  • In a chat, type @ and pick MyDesigns, then ask away.

Custom MCP servers can only be added on ChatGPT on the web, and not on every ChatGPT plan. In a Business or Enterprise workspace, an admin may need to add it or allow it first.

Coding tools

Coding assistants add MCP servers with a command or a config file. All of the ones below open the MyDesigns sign-in page on their own, so you do not need a token unless you prefer one.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http mydesigns https://mcp.mydesigns.io/mcp

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, pick mydesigns and sign in.

OpenAI Codex

codex mcp add mydesigns --url https://mcp.mydesigns.io/mcp
codex mcp login mydesigns

The Codex app, IDE extension and CLI share one setup, so adding it once works everywhere. In the IDE extension you can also open the gear menu, choose MCP servers, then Add server, pick Streamable HTTP and paste the address.

Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json for one project. Cursor asks you to sign in the first time it connects.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mydesigns": {
      "url": "https://mcp.mydesigns.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

VS Code with GitHub Copilot

Open the Command Palette, run MCP: Add Server, choose HTTP, paste the address and name it mydesigns. A browser window opens for you to sign in the first time Copilot uses it.

Gemini CLI

gemini mcp add --transport http mydesigns https://mcp.mydesigns.io/mcp

Then run /mcp auth mydesigns inside Gemini CLI to sign in.

Other assistants

Any other assistant or agent that supports MCP can connect the same way. Look for a setting to add a custom or remote MCP server, often under Connectors, Integrations, Plugins or Tools.

  • Add a new MCP server and name it MyDesigns.
  • Paste the address. If it asks for the transport, choose Streamable HTTP, sometimes shown as HTTP.
  • If it asks how to sign in, choose OAuth. The assistant then opens the MyDesigns sign-in page the first time it connects.
  • If it has no OAuth option, use a personal access token as a bearer token, as described below.

Personal access tokens

For a tool that cannot open a sign-in page, or one that runs unattended, use a personal access token. In MyDesigns, open Settings, then Personal Access Tokens, give the token a name and select Generate Token. Copy it straight away, because it is shown only once.

Give it to your tool as an Authorization header. Most tools have a headers setting for this, for example in Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http mydesigns https://mcp.mydesigns.io/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN"

Making designs

Ask the assistant for designs, or for Dream AI by name, and it makes them with Dream AI and saves them in Designs, without making any products yet. Use this when you want to see the designs before you choose what to put them on.

  • Up to 10 designs at a time, each from its own idea. They take a minute or two.
  • A card in the chat shows the designs as they are made.
  • Designs for apparel get a transparent background where the model allows it. Ask for a background when you want one, for a poster or a full-print mug for example.
  • The assistant uses the default Dream AI model unless you ask for another, such as Nano Banana, Ideogram, Recraft, FLUX or Seedream.
  • New designs go in your first design folder, or in a folder you name. The assistant can make a folder to keep a niche together.

Deleting designs

Delete a design from the card, or ask the assistant to delete the ones you do not want. They go to the Recycle Bin in Designs, where you can restore them for 30 days. The AI credits they cost are not given back.

Using your own designs

Ask the assistant to upload designs and it opens an upload card in the chat. Drop in PNG or JPEG files of up to 20 MB each, then tell the chat what to make with them. Uploading is free.

Making products

Products are made from your product profiles. A profile is a saved set of products, such as a t-shirt and a mug, with their print partner, colors, sizes, prices and mockups, so the assistant can turn a design into a ready product without asking about each of those.

  • The assistant searches your profiles and the public MyDesigns profiles, and asks which one to use. It never picks one for you.
  • Profiles cannot be made from the chat. Save one in the app with Save as Profile from the three dots menu when you create products.
  • Describe the design, or point to designs you already have, from Dream AI, a deep search or an upload. The assistant makes any new designs, then the products, up to 10 at a time.
  • Products take a few minutes after their designs. In Claude and ChatGPT a card shows each product as it gets ready.
  • New products wait in Products. They are not in any store until you publish them, in the same chat or a later one.

Stores and publishing

The assistant publishes to your MyDesigns Store. Publishing to Etsy, Shopify or other marketplaces is done in the app for now.

Publish products
Put new products into one of your stores. The assistant asks which store, and tells you if a plan limit or price stops a product.
Create a store
Make a new MyDesigns Store with a name, description and web address like your-name.mdstore.io. The address cannot be changed later. The store goes live empty, and takes orders once you connect payouts in the app.
Edit your store
Change the store name, description, accent color, banner headline and subtitle, and About text.
Store images
Set the logo, the banner across the home page, a separate banner for phones, and the favicon in the browser tab. The assistant makes them with Dream AI in the right shape, or uses a design you upload, and can take an image off again.
Store results
Orders, revenue, profit, costs, visits and top products over any number of days, compared with the period before. Costs are everything your sales cost you: making and shipping the products plus marketplace fees. Top products are ranked by sales and only include products with tracked page views. Today's activity may not be counted yet.
Custom domains
Connect a domain you already own, check its DNS setup, choose the main address, or disconnect it. Needs a paid plan. Domains are not bought through the assistant.

Deep search

Ask the assistant what sells for a niche and it can run a deep search with Scout AI: it looks at what sells on Amazon right now and makes designs from it, each with a title, description and tags. Give it several niches at once and they run together as one search. A search takes a few minutes, and a card shows the designs when you ask for the results.

  • Needs a Pro or Pro Plus plan.
  • Up to 20 niches in one search, and up to 10 designs for each.
  • Designs are made for a t-shirt unless you name another product, such as a mug, a tote bag or a poster.
  • Costs up to 1.5 AI credits per design. The assistant tells you the cost and waits for your yes before it starts.
  • One deep search runs at a time.

Pick the designs you like and ask the assistant to make products from them.

  • Editing, unpublishing or deleting products, and changing prices.
  • Making product profiles and choosing mockups.
  • Publishing to Etsy, Shopify and other marketplaces.
  • Payouts, refunds, and deleting a store.
  • Restoring deleted designs from the Recycle Bin.
