Imported products
Bring your existing Etsy and Shopify listings into MyDesigns, and what you can and cannot do with them.
What importing does
An imported product carries the listing's text, price, images and videos. It does not carry variants, a design or print files, because Etsy and Shopify do not hold that information in a form MyDesigns can use. So an imported product cannot be fulfilled by MyDesigns until you connect it to a product from our catalog, as explained in Making an imported product sellable below.
Importing listings
- Open Products, open the menu at the top of the page and choose Import products.
- Pick Etsy or Shopify. Only platforms with a connected shop are offered.
- Choose the store, then narrow the list by section or collection, by state, and by whether a listing is already imported. You can also search.
- Select the listings you want, or use Select all visible, and select Import.
Each import runs in the background and puts its products in one group, named Import from Etsy or Import from Shopify. Only one import per platform runs at a time.
Listings that are already in Products, whether imported or published from MyDesigns, show an Imported badge and cannot be selected again. Go to product opens the one you already have.
| Plan | Free | Starter | Pro | Pro Plus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Listings per import | 4 | 24 | 48 | 120 |
The limit is per import, not in total. To bring in more listings, run another import once the first one finishes.
What comes across
| Comes across | Does not come across |
|---|---|
| Title, description and tags | Variants and options, such as sizes and colors |
| One price for the whole listing | Per-variant prices and sale prices |
| Images and videos | SKUs and inventory |
| Personalization settings | The design and print files |
| The link to the live listing | Shipping profiles, sections and collections |
Shopify prices are converted to US dollars. Shopify personalization only comes across for listings that were published from MyDesigns.
Imported products are marked with a small download icon in Products. Hover it to see Imported from the store, not published from MyDesigns. To find one by its Etsy or Shopify listing ID, search Products by External ID.
What you can do with an imported product
- Edit the details
- Change the title, description, tags and SEO. Fetch from Etsy or Shopify pulls the live text back in if it changed there.
- Manage images and videos
- Reorder, remove and upload images, and make a video from them. Templated mockups need variants first.
- Personalization and bulk edits
- Set personalization, and use Update data or Vision AI on many imported products at once.
- Sync
- Send your changes to the live listing. Sync title, desc, tags sends the text, and Sync mockups sends the images.
- Check platform status
- See whether the listing is still live, so a listing removed on Etsy or Shopify shows up here.
- Delete
- Remove the product from MyDesigns. The live listing stays unless you tick Also delete from e-commerce platform.
Edits are not sent on their own. After a change the product shows as out of sync, and nothing reaches the live listing until you sync it.
What you cannot do
- Open the design behind it. An imported product has no design in MyDesigns.
- Add print files, or generate templated mockups, before the product has variants from our catalog.
- Have MyDesigns fulfill its orders before the product has variants from our catalog.
- Edit it in the new product editor. Imported products are not supported there yet.
Making an imported product sellable
To have MyDesigns print and ship an imported listing, connect it to a product from our catalog and match the listing's variants to ours. You do this in the Variants editor, one product group at a time.
- In Products, open the product's menu, choose Edit, then Variants.
- Select Add Product, pick the print partner and product, add at least one variant and save. MyDesigns adds blank print files while it saves.
- Open Variants again and choose Fetch Variants under Sync from Platform. Every variant on the live listing appears under Variants on Etsy only (or Shopify).
- For each one, choose the matching variant from our catalog under Map to variant. Matches are suggested when the colors and sizes line up, so check them. Its live price comes across too.
- Leave the variant you added in step 2 unticked if it shows as removed, select Apply Changes, then Save.
- Use Print files to replace the blank print files with your artwork.
- Select Sync variants and prices, or Sync all, to update the live listing.
Mapping one product at a time is the only way for now. There is no bulk mapping, and an imported product cannot use Switch Partner until it has variants.
Changing mockups
The images and videos you imported are your mockups. Open the product and use Upload Image or Generate Video, or select products and use Bulk actions, then Mockups, to reorder, remove and upload images across them. Select Sync mockups to send them to the listing.
To render templated mockups from your PSD mockups, the product needs variants and print files first, as described above.
Orders for imported products
Orders for an imported product come into MyDesigns, but until the product is mapped they are not fulfilled by MyDesigns. They appear in Orders under the External tab.
- You cannot change the variant or print files of an external item, because it has no product from our catalog behind it.
- If you fulfill these orders elsewhere, choose I'll Handle Manually so MyDesigns does not expect to fulfill them.
- Once you map the product and sync its variants, new orders arrive with MD- SKUs and MyDesigns fulfills them. Orders that came in before that stay external.
